In consulting and communications roles, Beth provides strategic communications development for organizations and initiatives such as the Transform Hawaii Government coalition, Coalition for a Tobacco-Free Hawaii, Hawaii Children’s Action Network, Pillars of Peace Hawaii, University of Maryland Department of Public Health, and Wai Maoli: Hawai‘i Fresh Water Initiative. With interests in social change, advocacy, and nonprofits, Beth has managed the Hepatitis C treatment outreach program for the UCSD Antiviral Research Center; the tobacco use prevention and cessation program for the Baltimore County Department of Health; research for the US Department of Agriculture on a communication campaign on safe food handling; and communication tools development for the Centers for Disease Control, National Center for Injury Prevention and Control. Beth has provided services for nonprofits, public relations agencies, government entities, and corporations. She has also taught courses in communications, news editing, advertising, and public relations at Chaminade University, Hawaii Pacific University, and the University of Maryland. She has a B.A. in environmental studies and public policy and an M.A. in strategic public relations from the University of Southern California. Previously, she held full-time positions in addition to consulting, most recently with the Hawaii Community Foundation as associate director, communications.
