For more than 25 years, I have helped people and institutions find solutions to sticky problems. I started work in my early teens, stringing and selling puka shell necklaces. Since then I have worked in a variety of interesting and challenging positions, including life guarding and serving as the first female park ranger in the maintenance division at Haleakala National Park.
As an attorney, I also worked at two federal courts of appeals (in New York and San Francisco), practiced commercial law, served as the Deputy Director at Hawaii’s Department of Human Services, teach graduate courses in conflict resolution at the University of Hawaii, and directed the Hawaii State Judiciary’s Center for Alternative Dispute Resolution.
I am a trained facilitator and mediator, and in addition to teaching at the University of Hawaii, I teach a variety of conflict resolution skills classes (communication, negotiation, mediation, and effective listening, to name a few). When I’m not working in alternative dispute resolution, I design and create wearable art (jackets, scarves, shawls, and other garments) from vintage kimono.
My clients are non-profits, religious organizations, and government. I hope my clients will say that I am very client centered. Although I chose “Meeting Expectations” as my dba because I liked the play on words, my intention is to exceed my clients’ expectations every single time.
